Looking for the perfect weekend escape with your pup? This dog-friendly itinerary has everything from scenic hikes to relaxing at the cabin. Here’s how to make the most of your weekend at Lazy Pines Cabins in the Pineywoods of East Texas:
Day 1: Relax and Unwind
Start your getaway by unwinding at Lazy Pines. Take a nap in the hammock and enjoy the tall pine trees and fresh air. Explore our seven acre property and see if you can find all seven trails! Relax with a glass of wine by the firepit and a simple grilled meal outside under the stars.
If you prefer someone else to do the cooking, then head to historic downtown Lufkin, and enjoy dinner at Rusty Axe Brewing, followed by an ice cream at Downtown Scoop (both are dog friendly!). Save some time to walk around and stop by some of the local boutiques or snap a photo by one of the many murals.
Day 2: One (or Two) Hiking Trails!
Wake up and spend a quiet morning enjoying a cup of coffee on the patio, listening to the song birds. Pack up a lunch to go, and head to Mission Tejas State Park, 50 minutes away. Hike the 8 miles of trails, discovering historical sites like the Rice Family Log Home. If you are ambitious and want more hiking, then stop at Ratcliff Lake next. On the way back to Lazy Pines, grab dinner at Pelican Point for tasty Cajun food (on the dog friendly patio) and then pickup delicious cinnamon rolls from Farmhouse Bakery for breakfast tomorrow!
Day 3: Wrap it Up
Before you have to head back home, spend the final few hours taking in the stillness of cabin life. Snap some photos, walk the trails one last time, and jot a note in the guest journal with memories of your trip. If you didn’t get to do everything on your list, you’ll just have to come back again!
