If you are looking for winter activities in Ruidoso, look no further! Here are just a few of the fun things the area has to offer during the winter season:
Skiing & Snowboarding: Ski Apache is the southernmost skiing in the country, so all ya’ll Texans, head on over! The official 2023 season kick off party is on November 23rd (if we can get some snow by then!). Check their website for ticket information, current snow information, and even a live webcam! Lazy Pines is only 14 miles from the slopes! Dog Friendly: They allow dogs on leash!
Snow Tubing: Just five minutes from Lazy Pines is snow tubing at Winter Park! They open on Thanksgiving Day and are open all season. Grab your tickets for three hours of snowy fun! Tip: Later in the day is less crowded. Dog Friendly: Leashed dogs are allowed, in the park, but not on the tubing hill.
Sleigh Rides: Bundle up and enjoy horse drawn sleigh rides through Ruidoso’s Upper Canyon. Sleigh rides are offered from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve. If you miss out on the sleigh rides, Grindstone Stables still offers horseback riding throughout the winter season! Dog Friendly: You can bring your dog if they don’t bark at people or the horses. If they shed, bring your own blanket.
Ice Skating: Not just any ice skating, Ruidoso offers OUTDOOR ice skating! Located at Wingfield Park, starting November 24th through January 15th. Check the weekly schedule here. They offer skate rentals as well. Dog Friendly: Wingfield park is a great place to bring the dogs, just not out on the ice rink!
Hiking: Hiking isn’t just a summer sport! The trails around Ruidoso are fun to explore all year long! Read our blog post about our favorite trails here. Dog Friendly: All of the trails listed are leashed dog friendly.
