Everyone always asks us what there is to do in Corrigan, where Lazy Pines Texas Cabins are located. My answer is usually “not much”! But if you drive about 20 minutes, you’ll find plenty to do in Lufkin. Downtown Lufkin has a cute walkable main street where you could spend a few hours, day or night. Here’s some of my personal findings:
Live Entertainment
A few restaurants have live music (such as Rusty Axe Brewing and 58J Music Cafe). Or check out Pines Theater and Temple Theater. They have a full line up of classic films, tribute bands, broadway productions and seasonal concerts.
Murals & Art
There are several wall murals as you walk around downtown. When you visit, bring a lock for the Locked with Love Tree!
Grub & Ice Cream!
We are still exploring the local downtown restaurants, but our “Go To” place is now Rusty Axe Brewing. We’ve tried everything from salads to pizza to seafood dishes to hot chicken…and it’s all really tasty. It has a fun vibe inside, outdoor patio (when it’s not 110 degrees anymore) and has hangout space to listen to the live music. Then we like to meander over to The Downtown Scoop for ice cream. They serve Ashbys Ice Cream from Michigan and have unique flavors every day.
Local Shops
I’ll be honest….I’m not really a shopper so I don’t have any first hand recommendations YET. However, they do have quite a variety of local shops to pop into from boutiques, to antiques, gifts, and culinary finds. You can poke around in a variety of stores or just window shop!
Bottom Line
This area is really starting to grow on us! It’s a good escape from big city life and has its own unique charms. It’s worth a visit to check it out!
